Content:

 

  • Understand the need for a person-centred approach to the support and well-being of individuals who are at the end of life

  • Be aware of legislation regarding equality, rights, confidentiality and sharing information when supporting an individual through end of life care

  • Understand the organisation’s policies and procedures and how to apply them with regard to people who are at the end of life

  • Understand that everyone must have equal access to the assessment process, taking into consideration language differences and difficulties also learning disabilities, hearing loss

  • Understand the need to support and work with family and friends of the individual

  • Understand the need to act as an advocate for those without family or friends

  • Understand the need to protect individuals from injury, abuse and harm

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and boundaries and how support and teamwork can lead to better support of people at the end of life

  • Understand the roles of services and organisations relating to end of life care

  • Understand the need for effective and positive communication with the individual who is at the end of their life

  • Understand the importance of respecting the dignity of the individual

  • Understand that one’s own work and experiences can impact on performance

  • Understand the need to respect organisational policy and the individual’s wishes after death

 

Who is the course aimed at?

 

This course is aimed at all care staff both as initial learning and a refresher.
